Harju Cemetery
The Finnish practice of transporting fallen soldiers home for burial was unique internationally. Usually, the fallen were buried near the battlefields. At the beginning of the Winter War, Finland decided that every soldier would be brought to their home municipality for burial. For this reason, all Finnish parishes have heroes’ cemeteries on their church grounds.
